Adventure, challenge, emotional jeopardy and a convincing portrayal of the reality of Iron Age life combine in this story of Morg's journey to independence and salvation.
Morg has been left to look after the baby while her mother fetches water, but what she wants to do is join the hunt. She is so angry and resentful that she mutters a curse against her mother. While her back is turned, the baby topples into the fire and is burnt. When Morg's mother comes back, she banishes Morg from the hut. Morg braves the forest to journey alone to the sacred grove to beg the goddess to intercede on her behalf and change her luck.
Readers' Reviews
Reading this page-turner, it's easy to imagine yourself back in the rough, tough days of the Iron Age when the wind and the wolves howled, men did the hunting and the mothers and daughters kept the home fire burning. Morg was a rebel, though, and was given the chance to prove herself as determined as any hunter. An absorbing read for any rebels aged 8 and upwards.
