Poignant and keenly observed, this story describes an unlikely affair of the heart.  Pamela Sturge, a single woman in her sixties, goes to the opera and finds that another singer has been substituted for one of the performers. To her surprise she develops an infatuation with him. This is followed by disillusion and an eventual acceptance of her life as it is.
